Individual admits sexual crimes targeting children at summer camp
A man who contaminated sweets with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
