Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
